| Stanley Hall Opera was started in 2001 with the aim of creating one entirely new production each year and staging it for one week in a midsummer season based around St. John’s Day. The company aims to give promising young singers and instrumentalists the opportunity to work together, and to benefit from working with experienced professionals, over an extended rehearsal period. The company is a registered charity and is run on a not-for-profit basis. Production costs are covered by ticket sales and by the generous private patronage, sponsorship and donations of our audience. All tickets must be bought in advance but, once purchased, there are no extras car parking, programmes, picnic marquees, tables, chairs and porters are all included. |
Productions take place in a tented garden amphitheatre, with excellent acoustics and sightlines. Operas are performed in contemporary English, commissioned specially or adapted to work with the music, to make the plot and characterization as accessible as possible, accompanied by a full-size chamber orchestra. If you would like to receive an invitation to forthcoming productions, please join our guestlist. Stanley Hall is within comfortable reach of Colchester, Ipswich, Bury St. Edmunds, Newmarket, Cambridge and Chelmsford, 35 minutes from Stansted Airport, and less than two hours drive from central London More about Stanley Hall, Directions, Places to Stay and Information on other Local Attractions |
